Team Reports;

The J1’s Match Report
The J1 boys had a good game playing Bulimba at EHTT at 6:15pm on the 04/05/2012 Friday Night. The result was 3-3 all draw. The boys looked solid in defence, strong mid-field and some great passing in the forwards and through balls, the score was 1-0 to Saints at half time. The scorer was Ryan O’Flaherty.
The second half a lapse in concentration early lead 2 quick gaols to Bulimba, then the boys dusted themselves off and struck back with gaols from Jackson Baker and Cody Miller.
Well done Saints

J2/3 Match Report.
We had a 2 – 0 win against South West United on Saturday May 5th. Once again we had players away and our loyal and keen under 13s stepped up to help us out. While there was passages of good hockey, simple mistakes saw us give the ball away too often. In a game where we had opportunity to score more goals, a lack of ‘hunger’  for the goal is reflected in our score. It is the boys third game, and they are getting stronger each week. A bit more attention to the coaches instructions and some tidying up of skills, will see the boys putting more in the net. A big thank you to the under 13s who stayed back to play and to those who stayed back last week, cold and wet, for a game that was eventually cancelled (parents too!!).

Under 13’s Match Report.
Following the ultra competitive effort by Saints Under 13s last week against the hot Bulimba side, coaches and parents alike were wondering how this improvement would translate against Easts 1 on Saturday morning.  Well we didn't need to wonder for long as the boys took control right from the first whistle going on to post a dominant 6 - 0 victory over their stunned opponents.
Once again every player contributed to the team effort which was highlighted by a four goal haul by Liam Hart, with one of these being as the result of a sweeping move from defence involving Jack Burnett and Lewis Fossey.  Matt Petzer nailed the goal of the year so far with a searing tomahawk from the edge of the circle crashing into the corner of the goal.  Sam Gooley came agonisingly close to repeating this with a sweetly struck toma of his own, but the Easts keeper pulled off a terrific save at the near post.  Declan McDermott, Zac Sheehan and Chandan Smith were rock solid in defence and Andy Groves had his best game for the year with some intelligent running off the ball creating several opportunities for himself as teammates found him with through balls into space.
Keep up the good work boys - at 2 push ups per goal (photo attached), your coaches will be so much fitter for their own matches!

Under 11’s Match Report.
U 11s   v Bulimba     5 May, 2012

After 2 easy trial games, the U11s were promoted to Div 1 and faced a much stronger opponent in Bulimba. The boys narrowly lost a very entertaining match 4 – 5.
The game highlighted the dramatic improvement in skills, teamwork and match play shown by all players, particularly those in their 1st season of U11s.

The attackers again showed great combination, playing their set positions, leading into space, calling for the ball and being on the receiving end of some long pinpoint passes from the midfield. They created many scoring opportunities with some great shots on goal only stopped by strong keeping from the opposition goalie. Goals were scored by Nick, Jacob and Liam (2).

The defenders had to work hard all game, and gave the midfielders the chance to turn defence into attack. Special mention goes to Jake, who stood tall at fullback, marking and tackling strongly to stop the many Bulimba raids. The boys showed great determination and never stopped trying for the team even when they were behind on the scoreboard.

Under 9’s Match Report.
Under 9’s
The under 9’s last week had a very hard fight against Commercial Blue with a 1-1 draw.  The Saints forwards Alex Smith, Jacob and Alex Shaw played their positions very well and were always attacking Commercials defence.
Our 2 girls in the mid field, Imogen and Sariah were very good at passing between each other to enable our team to work our way up the field. We had all the play in the first half, but unfortunately just couldn’t finish off. Commercial scored a goal against the run of play. Saints fought back hard and equalised when Jacob scored a goal.  Our defenders Ollie and Max tackled well all night with Max hitting some really nice sixteen yard hits to find Imogen and Sariah. Player of the match was Alex Shaw for always tackling back and running well with the ball. Well done. Both teams’ parents commented on what a good game the kids played as it was end to end hockey. Well done. A special thank you also to Imogen for filling in for the Under 9’s, it was very much appreciated.  Nick Hassall (Coach)

Under 7’s Match Report.
Under 7’s
The under 7’s last week played against Valley and won 3-0. The team had a very good game on Friday night with some great passing, tackling and most importantly played with team work.  Both Jet and Jack tackled very well and worked hard in getting the ball up to the forwards. Sienna and Phoebe ran hard all night and Jordan was always setting the play up for the forwards. Ollie helped out in the backs and as always tackled very well. The player of the match was awarded to Dominic who ran hard and had his best game yet in front of his Poppy. Well done Under 7’s. Nick Hassall (Coach)
