J1’s Match Report
PR St Andrews v Commercial; Full Time score: 2 – 0 to the ‘Mighty Saints’
After warming up pretty boy Rein Kleidon aka “Scarface” revealed the deep crevasse in his cheek to only having 1 stitch. Not to be outdone young Tanya Kleidon had to provide parents with real stitches, (laughing), to the parent’s delight she received stiches to her knee. The starting whistle blew the ‘Super Coach’ (Mitch Bolton) and ‘Super Manager’ (Michelle Miller) where poised at the fence line with great expectations. Assistant Super Coach (Joel DeYoung) was sorely missed by players and parents a like. There was a back and forth affair, Saints came up with the advantage and got a short corner. Ryan O’Flaherty looks daunting striding up to execute the ball from the stick trap. Just the rattle of the net was heard from a drag flick converted by Ryan. Ordinary play by Commercial lead to a shot at goal, Scott “the rock” O’Shea leaps 7 metres to his left and saves a sure goal. With 7 seconds on the clock in the first half the boys get a short corner, Ryan ‘the drag flicka” O’Flaherty slots another goal. Half time score 2-0
Starting off the second half was some superb passing and good leading, Commercial barely out of there half. Commercial pressing forward and Saints defending finally have a chance at the oppositions net, there was a shot from the Cody ‘bundy bombshell’ Miller which the Commercial keeper just got a nick to it to save a determined Saints forward.
An OUTSTANDING EFFORT and GAME, all 11 players were good and the two subs (Kye-Harry) performed at a high level when called on.
Lets do again everyweek!!!!
P.S The Editor ‘dictator’ of this newsletter made me say this, I could not see the whole field and he told me to mention that Zac Day leapt from left to right and back flipped over the net to save 2 goals. From what I understand, that is what a Saint does.
J2/3 Match Report.
Well here we are at East tiger turf. Todays game between Saints and Easts 2. Our boys start off strong busting through forcing Easts to defend hard Kai takes a quick self play free hit on left side runs to circle and Bazinga penalty corner.....The corner breaks down but we force another straight away ... The ball comes out flat and hard ...Andrew gets a clean shot ..... WHOP.. BANG RATTLE .. GOAL !!!!!!! 1-0
We started pressing a little harder forcing turnover after turnover. Another penalty corner ZINGS out Andrew gets another shot SHAZAM !!! GOAL!!!! 2-0....
Half time the boys come back out and start to dominate.. Tom and Alex played hard and tough stopping Easts in their tracks.. We had some great chances in the 2nd half but just unlucky to hit keeper or just wide.. But we are making chances with players in right places ... More hard work and dedication will see this team... Up Up and Away...
Go Saints GO !!!!!
Under 13’s Match Report.
The Under 13s fought hard to achieve a tense 1 - 0 victory over Easts on Saturday. With several key players unavailable, all players were on the field for the entire match, including young Nick Anderson who played up manfully from the strong Saints Under 11s side. The goal which decided the game resulted from a Penalty Corner, with Matt Petzer nailing an impressive strike from the edge of the circle. As mentioned, all players responded to the coaches' call for a supreme effort and gave their all for the team, with Zac Sheehan producing a standout game highlighted by countless intercepts and penetrating passing to teammates in good position. Declan McDermott continued to impress with superb timing of his hits a joy to watch. The progress of any team can be measured by their ability to perform when under the pump and the boys produced a terrific effort on Saturday to show just how far they have come this year. Well done to all!
Under 11’s Match Report.
U 11 Match Report – 9/6/12
It was a top-of-the-table clash when the U11s team took on the undefeated Bulimba side. Saints are still sorting out combinations, particularly in defence, and started the match a little disjointed. This allowed Bulimba to score two early goals to race to a commanding lead. This shook the team into action and the boys showed real determination to fight back. Liam scored twice before half time to even up the score. The 2nd half saw Bulimba score to take the lead 3-2 before Jacob scored with his tenacious effort to leave the final score a very commendable 3 all draw. The young forwards, Aidan, Jacob and Oliver were well supported by the midfielders, Nick, Liam, Declan and Jack. But the highlight was the improved performance by the backs - Jake, Connor, Jarvis, Owen and goalie, Cameron.
After the early hiccups, the backs communicated well and showed a real intensity in defence. Owen had his best match of the season, marking up and tackling strongly. Jarvis marked his player out of the action while Jake put in was his usual rock solid performance at fullback. Connor is finding his feet at fullback and combined well with Cameron and the other backs to turn defence into attack. Player of the match went to Jack who played with great confidence and determination both in attack and defence.
Under 9’s Match Report.
Under 9’s
Under 9’s played against Pine Hills (5-0 Win)
The U9’s had a tough game with 3 players not being able to play. Max and Sariah have been sick all week and Patrick had an eisteddfod to be at.
Thank you to Imogen for helping the team out again playing as she always does running all night long. The team showed some really nice passing beating Pine Hills players with their passing. Well done to the forwards Alex Smith, Jacob and Alex Shaw for some great passing. Also, well done to Hayden, Imogen and Ollie for their great defending and tackling everything that came at them. The team played well together and well done to our goal scorers Jacob (3) and Imogen (2).
Player of the Match was Alex Smith for his positional play and nice passing, well done.
Under 7’s Match Report.
Under 7’s
Under 7’s played against Commercial Purple (1-2).
Saints on Friday night were captained by Koen who played well chasing the ball around up in the forwards. Unfortunately Koen got a bump in the face and tried his best to keep going, well done.
Jordan, Dominic, Sienna and Phoebe played in the forwards and were always putting pressure on the Commercial defence. Jet, Ollie played really well in defence stopping numerous attacking runs from Commercial.
A big thank you to Ollie for filling in for Jack who has been sick all week – get well soon Jack.
Man of the Match went to Jordan Cowin, well done.
